National Weather Service from NOAA

If you need any information about the weather the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a good resource to get any weather related information. The National Weather Service was enacted by President Ulysses S. grant February 8, 1870 to take meteorological observations at military stations around the continent to give notice of the approach and force of storms.  Today the benefits of the nation weather service effect people daily with its weather forecasts and storm warnings.

Visit  www.nws.noaa.gov website for weather warnings, forecasts, flooding reports, air quality reports, and temperature reports . Other useful information includes marine and aviation forecasts including text alerts from your cellphone by visiting mobil.weather.gov on your smart phone.

The Hodge Company Case Study – Riverfront Roof SPF Project

There are many reasons to put a white roof on your commercial building such as energy savings, durability. Besides being cost effective of the considerations facilities managers have is about the roofing contractors experience and expertise.

Is your SPF contractor ready to handle a large scale job site with multiple areas with problems? Professional Contractors easily take care of out of town projects with weather rushed deadlines. Read about a professional experienced SPF contractor showing their careful planning and team work strategy around an environmentally sensitive site.
Having a roofing job performed by an experienced professional saves you the headaches of dealing with less skilled workers and poorer performance results. It can bring you peace of mind as a building manager knowing that you will not have to worry about something going wrong and most importantly your roof will last longer.

Will Snow and Ice Damage My SPF Roofing System?

KFS recommends that you do not attempt to remove snow or ice from the roof. Leave this job for the experts as damage can occur when unskilled workers attempt to remove the ice and snow. A properly installed SPF system should have minimal ice build up as the systems require adequate slope to drain. Large areas of ponding water can create problems on your roof in the winter as well as the summer.

What Causes Ice Dams?

Poor attic insulation may not only cause  you high heating and cooling bills, it can cause ice dams in winter that damage your roof and siding and drive water inside the building envelope resulting in leaks inside the walls, ceilings and other parts of the building.
Inadequate insulation allows heat to escape from rooms below into the attic and out through the roof. The heat that escapes from the roof causes the snow to melt. When temperatures drop in the evening or as water passes over a cooler part of the roof such as eaves and other overhangs it can then refreeze forming ice. Over a short period of time this melting and freezing process can cause ice dams to form.
The solution is simple – adequate insulation applied -before- ice dams can begin to form.

Thermal Imaging Gun Scans Unseen Areas of Building

Before considering any type of insulation project you should determine where your problems are coming from by assessing the building condition. The best tool for testing this is a thermal imaging gun or infrared camera which shows temperature differences. These tools can show you if your walls or roof have poor or inadequate insulation, wet insulation, or building air leaks.
Many of the problems of a building can be overlooked on a walkthrough physical inspection. Using a thermal gun or an infrared camera on the whole building can help to determine where your heat and energy loss is coming from.
Using a professional to do a thermal scan of your building could save you money and labor by figuring out where the leaks are and identifying water damaged parts of the roof.

Insulating Vaulted and Cathedral Ceilings

An area that is very hard to insulate is a vaulted and/or cathedral ceiling like many found in commercial buildings today. The old traditional way of insulating high ceilings was to use fiberglass that was nailed down. Over time the fiberglass insulation would then start to sag and hang down due to gravity.

The best way to insulate and build the structural integrity of high ceilings is to use spray foam insulation. Spray foam insulates and seals the most difficult spaces with ease giving you a comfortable, quiet, dust- and draft-free ceiling.

Insulating Tight Spaces in Buildings

There are many areas in your business that cannot be properly insulated with regular insulation. Some of the areas that need special attention are the sub floor and floor joists. These spaces sometimes are tight to get into and maybe just a couple of inches wide and are hard to seal using fiberglass or cellulose insulation.  Other areas that are hard to insulate are around electrical wires, plumbing and cracks.
Spray Foam is the perfect solution for small hard-to-reach spaces and larger spaces too. Out of the top 3 insulation types (cellulose, fiberglass and spray foam) Spray Foam is better at sealing up the envelope of your building and all those tight spots. Spray foam has a higher R value and out performs other insulation types.
